HISTORY OF KPOPDANCEOULU
KPOPDANCEOULU is a dance school founded in 2018 by Joona Aartola from Oulu. Aartola started dancing K-pop dances with a group of friends, but later decided to start a dance school to make K-pop dancing more accessible for everyone. Aartola has been a full-time teacher at KPOPDANCEOULU since the inception. KPOPDANCEOULU quickly brought together a large part of the K-pop community in the Oulu region. Since the beginning, the classes have been attended by both younger and older enthusiasts, and many students have found new friends through their shared hobby.
KPOPDANCEOULU has always believed that everyone should have the right and opportunity to participate, regardless of age, gender or background.
CURRENT ACTIVITIES
KPOPDANCEOUL’s activities have grown and diversified over the years. The course offerings have expanded, and in the fall of 2024, a new ADVANCED PRODUCTION course was launched, at the end of which students film a dance cover of the routine they’ve practiced for release on YouTube. Joona Aartola remains KPOPDANCEOUL’s full-time instructor, but in addition to him, Kiki Jokisaari, Iiris Ihalainen, and Naomi Edereho now also teach courses at KPOPDANCEOUL.
Today, there are also two competing dance groups under KPOPDANCEOULU: BACKPAIN DANCE CREW and GROWING PAINS DANCE CREW. Both groups have performed and competed in various events and competitions around Finland and BACKPAIN DANCE CREW has also placed in Swedish dance competitions.
KPOPDANCEOULU is offering six full-length courses this fall! Thanks to their huge popularity, we’re once again offering two sessions of the K-POP KIDS’ CLASS courses for 7- to 12-year-olds! This fall, we’re also offering two different beginner-level courses: one for 13- to 14-year-olds and another for those 15 and older. The course content varies and is tailored to the participants’ preferences and age groups. In addition, this fall we’re offering a FULL SONG course designed for intermediate/advanced levels for the first time in a long while!
UPDATE Aug. 17: Thanks to high demand and the feedback we’ve received, we’re offering a second FULL SONG course this fall! In this brand-new K-POP FULL SONG | 13+ (Beginner/Intermediate) course, you’ll learn different dances than in the corresponding intermediate/advanced-level course!
